When Dentex becomes an obsession…
During more recent years, dentex hunting has become my top priority, almost an obsession! Great thrill, even bigger disappointment (mostly disappointment), and sometimes incredible moments have come along with this amazing prey. Dentex-dentex is a unique species. A notorious predator full of specialized characteristics and abilities: speed, suspiciousness, power, and two pairs of ultra sharp fangs! Total devotion and dedication to the hunt, along with deep diving and long breath holding abilities of course, are mandatory in order to just begin discovering their secrets. Still, you will never be able to feel completely sure against them. There isn’t a point that you will totally master this specialized technique. When it comes to dentex hunting, the possibility of ending up with your shaft lying on the sea bed and the fish swimming unharmed, miles away, is always at the top of the menu. Total frustration!

Hrvatski izbornik Branko Ikić, podvodni ribolovac Medulina pobjednik je 23. Međužupanijskog prvenstva sjevernog Jadrana održanog u pulskom akvatoriju u organizaciji kluba Marlera Ližnjan. Ikić je tijekom petosatnog ribolova ulovio tri ugora, tri trilje, četiri zubaca od kojih je najteži imao 1503 grama te škarpinu od 1560 grama ukupne vrijednosti 17540 bodova.
Deep Spearfishing: all about the Variable Weight
Since old Greek sponge divers times, variable weight diving has been permanently on the agenda of free divers. Using an oval shape marble block (petra) and an attached rope; sponge divers of the past used to dive very fast, very deep, collect their stuff at that depth, and return back to surface with the help of their top men who were pulling up the line and the weight. The culture of using a pendulum has obviously developed since then. Today the historic petra has evolved into a modern diving sledge in an athletic wet arena.
